After traveling by special appointment over 8,000 miles from Afghanistan to West Virginia, U.S.A.,
The Last American Flag to fly over the
U.S. Special Forces Headquarters CAMP VANCE Afghanistan
will be raised on American soil for the very first time in history in the
City of Morgantown, West Virginia U.S.A.

FOR THE UNITED STATES of AMERICA
the flag's remarkable journey home marked the end of almost two decades
of the Special Forces headquarters' crucial role in
America’s Longest War in History,
longer than World War I, World War II and Vietnam combined.



OBESERVANCE AND MEMORIAL

The flag was lowered in an official ceremony by the United States
10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) just prior to dusk on
U.S. Armed Forces Day, Saturday May 15, 2021.
It will be raised in an official ceremony on
U.S. Armed Forces Day Saturday May 20, 2023
by the United States
WVARNG 2-19th Special Forces Group (Airborne).
The Last American Flag ceremony will observe and memorialize the
12th Gene Vance Jr. Day
U.S. Armed Forces Day 2023 and
U.S. Special Operations Forces over the past 20 years.
The goal of the ceremony is to act as a catalyst in uniting our communities and creating public awareness for the enormous sacrifices fellow Americans in uniform make each day to keep us safe and protect the freedoms and way of life we all hold so dear.

Camp Vance was headquartered by U.S. Special Operations Task Forces (SOTFs). The mission of the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force at Camp Vance included denying terrorist sanctuaries in Afghanistan that threaten western interests.
